Biography

Dr. John McElveen, DDS, MD, PharmD, is an oral maxillofacial and craniofacial surgeon and teacher based in Maryland. He currently serves as an instructor at both Johns Hopkins University and Howard University, where he shares his expertise and passion for surgical excellence with the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. McElveen is deeply committed to providing exceptional patient care while advancing the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery through education and clinical practice.

Educational Background

Born and raised in New Orleans, Dr. McElveen earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana before going on to Howard University to study dentistry. He then earned a medical doctorate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2014 before starting a four-year residency as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at the Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill Emergency Room in Kansas City.

After completing his residency in early 2019, Dr. McElveen has dedicated himself to delivering the highest standard of oral and maxillofacial surgical care. His extensive training and experience allow him to handle complex surgical cases with precision and compassion, always keeping patient comfort and outcomes as his top priority.

Academic Focus & Certifications

As an academic, Dr. McElveen specializes in surgical management of patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea as well as head and neck trauma, pathology, and reconstruction. He holds certificates in Preliminary General Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Facial Reconstruction.

Biography

Dr. Ryan Look grew up in northern New Jersey and earned both his undergraduate and dental degrees from Rutgers University. He then completed a General Practice Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia before returning to Rutgers at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, for a five-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency.

Dr. Look's patient care philosophy is rooted in the belief that surgery is a collaborative journey centered on patient safety and clinical excellence. He treats every patient like family, maintaining a compassionate, 'patient-first' approach in every aspect of care. Dr. Look's goal is to provide a seamless, pain-free experience that bridges specialized surgical expertise with the long-term restorative goals of his patients.

Professional Experience

Through rotations in medicine, general surgery, and anesthesia, Dr. Look developed a comprehensive surgical foundation and a unique skill set. In his final year, he served as Chief Resident, performing extensive operating room procedures and mentoring junior residents.

Personal Interests

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Look enjoys staying active through the gym and golf, exploring new restaurants, and spending quality time with his family. He's also an avid sports fan—rooting for the New York Yankees, Duke Blue Devils especially during March Madness, and, unfortunately, the Oakland Raiders.
