Meet Dr. John McElveen

Dr. John McElveen, DDS, MD, PharmD, is a board certified Oral & Maxillofacial who resides with his family in Washington DC. He currently serves as an instructor at both John Hopkins University and Howard University while acting as a surgery consultant Oral at Clear Choice Implant Center in Rockville, MD where he performs 35-40 all-on-4 full mouth implant reconstruction including cases that require placement of pterygoid, trans-sinus and zygomatic implants. Dr. McElveen is devoted to all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with special interest in exodontia, bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, management of complex head and neck infections/trauma, and sleep apnea. 


Born and raised in New Orleans, Dr. McElveen earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana before going on to Howard University to study dentistry. He then earned a medical doctorate degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 2014 before starting a four-year residency as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at the Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill Emergency Room in Kansas City. 

He holds certificates in Preliminary General Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while maintaining memberships with International Surgical Sleep Society (ISSS), the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), and the American Medical Association (AMA). 


Dr. McElveen is driven by a personal mission to bring positive change to all patients under his management, and he thrives on working collaboratively with other doctors to develop treatment strategies to improve the overall functionality of their oral health. 


For Dr. McElveen, the secret to his success lies in his healthy relationships with his family. In his spare time, he enjoys riding bikes and playing video games with his children. 


In his free time, Dr. McElveen enjoys fishing, hiking, cooking, and swimming.
