Bone Graft Surgery in White Plains, MD

Dr. McElveen, our expert oral and maxillofacial surgeon, offers the following bone graft procedures at our White Plains, MD, dental office:

Bone Grafts for Dental Implants

Missing teeth can cause you to lose bone mass in your jaw. When this happens, your jaw may not be strong enough to hold the dental implant you need to replace your missing tooth.

Dr. McElveen can give you a bone graft to replace the missing bone and rebuild the strength of your jaw. He'll attach a special material to deficient areas in your jaw. As you heal, your natural bone will grow around this material and become strong again.

Sinus Lift

Your sinuses extend down toward your upper jawbone in the back of your mouth. If you need an implant in your rear teeth but you do not have enough bone mass, you may need a sinus lift.

Dr. McElveen will enter your sinus cavity through your jawbone, where he will gently move your sinuses up to make space for the bone graft. Then he will fill the space with the special bone graft material. When it heals, you will have enough strong bone in your jaw for successful implant surgery.

Ridge Augmentation

When you lose a tooth, the socket in your jawbone is left empty, which can cause you to lose bone mass. This will affect the size and shape of your jawbone. If a large amount of your bone mass has deteriorated, you may need a ridge augmentation.

Dr. McElveen can provide this advanced type of bone grafting to reconstruct the sections of your jawbone that have deteriorated. This procedure will not only strengthen the jaw but also improve its appearance and ability to support your teeth.

Socket Preservation

In order to prevent the loss of bone mass (and the need for a ridge augmentation), Dr. McElveen can do a special bone graft to preserve your tooth socket when you get a tooth extracted.

After extracting the tooth, Dr. McElveen can fill that empty socket in your ridge with bone grafting material. This will maintain the strength and size of your socket; and once it heals, you will be able to receive a dental implant to replace the missing tooth.
